LUNG FORCE Walk 2024
Radonova joined forces with the Midwest Chapter of the Indoor Environments Association (IEA) to walk in Chicagoland’s annual LUNG FORCE Walk over the weekend.Organized and hosted by the American Lung Association, the LUNG FORCE Walk is a gathering of friends, families, coworkers, and community volunteers who gather to walk to honor the people they’ve lost to lung cancer and to support a world without lung disease.
LUNG FORCE Walk 2024
The event took place in the beautiful Cantigny Park located in Wheaton, Illinois. Approximately 500 participants enjoyed a pre-walk Health & Resource Fair consisting of flu shots, radon test kits (provided by Radonova), dental kits, a Kids Zone, music, and Halloween candy and costumes. The walk had options for 1.5 miles or a 5K that wove through the paved sidewalks within the park. Signs lined the walk route with names of people who friends and family were walking in memory of along with words of compassion and encouragement.
Team “Radon Awareness”
Midwest IEA hosted a table at the Health & Resource Fair and created a “Radon Awareness” walking team. The Radon Man superhero and other local radon detection and mitigation businesses participated in the walk.
“As a member of the Midwest Chapter of IEA, we were excited to hand out candy to kids and radon test kits to people who have not tested their homes,” says Zan Jones of Radonova, Inc. out of Lombard, Illinois. “Many people were not aware that radon is the #1 cause of lung cancer in nonsmokers and were interested in learning more about it and getting their homes tested.”
Lung Cancer Statistics
According to the 2024 Illinois Radon Report Card, 43% of the homes in the state have high radon with almost 1,500 Illinoisans suffering from radon-induced lung cancer per year. The American Lung Association states that “lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths among men and women. Someone is diagnosed with lung cancer every two minutes and 14 seconds. 4 in 5 of those diagnosed will ultimately die of the disease.”
Having Hope
Events like the LUNG FORCE Walk provide community awareness and funding to support efforts to prevent and defeat lung cancer along with other lung diseases such as asthma, COPD, pneumonia, influenza, and many more. These efforts provide a sense of hope for those suffering from lung disease.
