How Do Radon Detectors Work?
We offer both short-term and long-term testing kits that will allow you to determine what steps you need to take, if any, to lower the accumulation of radon gas in your home. Each detector offered by Radonova is built using the latest alpha track chip technology so that all tests are as accurate as possible. All of the tests are interpreted at a certified laboratory and posted to your RadOnline account. This gives you access to your information when you need it the most and allows future reference

Radtrak³ Long Term Radon Detector
90-365 DAYS
The Radtrak³ is Radonova's long-term radon detector. It is designed for long-term use and will give you the most accurate radon levels on a long-term basis. The devices are similar to the Rapidos detectors in both size and shape, with the Radtrak³ being slightly shorter in height. You will receive the number of devices needed to sufficiently test your home. In most cases, this will range between one and five detectors per shipment.
The Radtrak² must remain in place for at least 90 days (no longer than 365 days). The detector will begin to read as soon as the package is open. Immediate placement is necessary if you want to have the most accurate results possible. The detectors are easy to install and should be placed at least 20 inches above the floor. Do not place it in kitchens or bathrooms due to the high levels of humidity. They should also be placed away from heat sources and out of direct sunlight.
Each detector should be placed approximately 36 inches away from windows or doors leading outside and 48 inches away from your home's outside walls. Place detectors in the most lived in areas of your home, including dining rooms, living rooms, and bedrooms. You may want to consider placing them in basements and crawl spaces due to those areas being common points of radon gas entry.
Leave the detectors in place and untouched for the allotted amount of time. At the end of the 90 days (or longer), gather the detectors and place them in the postage-paid envelope. Place the mailer in the post office box and send it off to the laboratory. All results will be posted to your RadOnline account and emailed to the address provided. If you have any questions or are unsure of how to interpret your results, you can call and talk to a Radonova representative to get the answers to all of your questions. They will also be able to tell you what steps to take if your tests show higher than normal radon levels
Rapidos Short Term Radon Detector
10-90 DAYS
The Rapidos and Premium Rapidos short-term radon detectors are top of the line and will provide you with accurate readings. To do so, it is important that you take the time to install and handle them according to the manufacturer's instructions. If you have received an inconclusive or borderline result in the past, the Rapidos radon detectors will help clear up the confusion.
Kits contain from 1 to 5 units, instructions for the deployment of the detectors, and all of the information you will need to sign on to your RadOnline account so you can see your results. A postage-paid envelope is also included so that all you have to do is drop the detectors in and place them in the mailbox. The number of detectors you need will be determined by the size of your home.
Rapidos detectors should be put in place and allowed to remain without interruption for at least 10 days. It is important that they are collected before the end of 90 days if you want to have the most accurate reading possible. The detector immediately begins to pick up on radon as soon as you open its packaging. It is extremely important that you place the detector as soon as you open the package.
For an accurate reading, you must place the Rapidos detector approximately 20 inches or higher above the floor. Make sure to place the detector three feet or more away from exterior doors and windows. Each detector should also be at least four feet away from exterior walls or any physical objects within the home. Avoid placing detectors on any type of stone surface, this includes mantels, tabletops, and countertops.
Detectors work best when they are placed in rooms where the family spends the majority of their time. This can include bedrooms, living rooms, and family rooms. Do not place detectors in rooms that are normally prone to high levels of humidity. This includes bathrooms and kitchen areas. Multiple detectors should also be placed on the lowest levels of the home, including the basement. Make sure the units are placed where people tend to spend most of their time. During the time that the detectors are deployed, it is essential that you keep the doors and windows closed as much as possible.
After the 10-90 day testing period has passed, pick up the detectors, and immediately place them in the postage-paid envelope. The address is already affixed to the envelope so all you have to do is seal it and drop it into the mailbox.
The laboratory will receive the detectors and immediately begin to process the results. The results will be sent to your RadOnline account and emailed to the address provided as soon as they are completed. Your results will be able to give you the answers you need to determine whether or not you need to pursue further action.
QuickScreen Radon Screening
48-96 HOURS
QuickScreen is our charcoal radon screening detector that works well when you only have a few days to get results. It is incredibly easy to use. You only have to leave the screening tool in place for 48 to 96 hours to get an accurate reading. One kit is included in each package and comes with a list of detailed instructions. You will also receive a convenient envelope so you can return the detector for quick results.
As soon as you open your kit, your next step will be to place it in your home according to the package directions. The QuickScreen detector must be placed approximately 20” off the floor or higher. Make sure it is at least three feet from windows and doors and four feet from any objects or exterior walls. Detectors should be placed in the level of the home that is most lived-in. You should also place one or two in the basement depending on the size of the area. Always try to put them in rooms where people tend to spend the most time.
When working with the QuickScreen detector, there are a few things you may want to consider. It should not be placed on a mantel or any other type of natural stone surface. Avoid areas of your home that are excessively humid, like your kitchen and bathrooms. It is important to protect the paper portion of the test from any type of tears or punctures. Lastly, keep the test dry and away from direct sunlight or other sources of heat. These may cause the test to provide you with inaccurate results.
After the required amount of time, 48 to 96 hours, you will want to collect the detector and seal it in the return envelope. For the reading to be accurate, you will need to avoid over-handling the detector. Do not touch any of the paper surfaces when picking it up and placing it in the enclosed envelope.
Drop the envelope in the mail and it will be on its way to the lab for analysis. Once the laboratory receives the detector, readings will be performed and you will have your results in a few days' time. All of your results will be sent to your RadOnline account and emailed to the address provided All you have to do is sign in and the results will be waiting for you.
